If your house has a basement, there are a lot of home remodeling options that you can explore to make this part of your home highly usable. Most people usually ignore a basement or do not consider it as an important part of the house, but it can be significant depending on what you plan to do with it.

There are several ways a basement can be transformed. It can be an additional primary room if you are short of space or you can just use it as a personal project. Here are some ideas on what you can do to your basement.

1. Home Office. If you work at home or you just need a personal space where you can keep your papers and books, then you can convert the basement into your personal office. Just clean it up, de-clutter and add a sturdy desk and chair there. A book shelf and your computer and other small personal things to liven up the space are enough to make it your very own.

2. Personal workshop area. Men like tinkering with do-it-yourself projects and most of the time, their tools get scattered around the house. In some cases, they use the garage as their personal workshop area, but if there is no more space there and kids are running around all the time, it is better to use the basement. It will not only leave the man of the house undisturbed, it will also minimize risks of accidents, especially to children, that may be caused by tools lying around.

3. Den. You can convert the space into a personal den. It will provide a space where one can think and an area where there is less likelihood of being disturbed by other members of the household. A television, a cot, an entertainment system and other materials that provide relaxation can be kept in the den. If there is a teenager in the house who is starting to be protective of his privacy, you can transform the basement into his den to give him a place to chill. Or use it as a place to relax if you want some alone time.

4. Storage room. This transformation is more functional than anything else. You can install built-in shelves and use storage boxes to keep tools, house cleaning materials and other not-often used items in the room. This will leave more space in other rooms and will put the basement into good use. Organize what you are going to store in the room or label them to make it easier for you to find whatever item you require.

5. Home gym. A basement is often used as a home gym by those who are into physical fitness. It offers privacy and the heavy exercise machines will not get in the way or take up space in other rooms where space is very much needed. This home remodeling option will save you some money if you just invest on an exercise equipment and workout at your home instead of paying monthly or annual fees at physical fitness centers.
